Embedded Systems
An embedded system is a computer system built into a larger machine to provide a means of control. They perform specific pre-programmed tasks that are often stored in ROM.
Embedded systems typically have dedicated hardware, a small amount of memory and low processing power. Their functions are limited and they may be difficult to update.
A washing machine has an embedded system that manages wash cycles and controls water temperature.
Modern cars contain embedded systems that manage the engine and automate features such as lights.
A traffic light has an embedded system that controls the sequence and timing of the lights.
